Rebuilding the motor is mot all that difficult. Of course I say that assuming that you'll take the block to a machine shop to have the passages cleaned and the cylinder walls honed. Use care will all torquing and it's not a problem at all. I came from rebuilding Ford 302, 351 and Chevy 305, 350's and like you say....same concept, different engine. If you have 2 years trade school experience on your side you'll be just fine.
